About Me

Marcus Fey

With over 20 years of fundraising experience and having coached around 50 ministries, I have seen a wide variety of financial situations. Bags of cash carried in by well-intentioned relief workers after a natural disaster, helping police identify a quarter million counterfeit dollars found in a bag, ministry vehicle theft, and even financial statements altered with AI to hide fraud. But the most common issue is simply a complacency toward basic financial best practices.

I love to help ministry leaders, nonprofit organizations, and churches in Thailand develop sustainable fundraising strategies and strengthen their financial standards. With a few simple changes in mindset and process, ministries can build stronger financial integrity and accountability.

Faithful Stewardship

Over the years, I have seen many ministry leaders treat fundraising, budgets, and financial planning in general as a necessary evil. They may never say those words or it may even be subconscious, but anything involving money is often viewed as less spiritual than "the real work" of ministry. Sometimes this comes from fear of fundraising, or even a subtle pride in declaring our trust in God to those around us. I have been guilty of both at times!

Yes, God provides for the birds, but the birds spend most of the day using the wings and beaks He gave them to gather food. Our first and most important step in fundraising is to orient our hearts toward trust in God's provision through prayer. Once our hearts are aligned, it is time to use the hands, feet, and minds God has given us to pursue that provision.

Because financial work is often seen as less spiritual, standards and best practices can fall by the wayside. But Scripture (Luke 16:10-13, Col 3:23-24, Gen 2:15) points in the opposite direction. If we are stewards of God's resources, then we are called to excellence in how we manage them.

When a ministry is fully funded and those resources are stewarded well, the result is greater stability and ultimately greater kingdom impact.

What does coaching look like?

Whether it's an email, Line message, conversation over coffee, or a formal class, I'm happy to help in a way that serves your ministry best. If I don't have the answer, I'll at least try to point you in the right direction or connect you with someone who can help.

Do you offer formal classes?

I have a 6 session financial literacy course contextualized for Thai culture and a fundraising course that can be flexible to your needs. If you're starting from scratch or simply want some ideas of how to fundraise from overseas, the material and conversation can be catered to your needs. When meeting with groups, this course is often taught with Darin Dunn, a Digital Media Manager for Grace International School. Darin has coached dozens of missionaries in fundraising and has been fundraising for over 25 years.

Do you charge anything?

Never. There's no catch, and I'll even buy your coffee. God has called me to use my gifts to serve, and I'm more than happy to invest my time and resources to helping you pursue your ministry's vision.
